Now it's Three Weeks in Hell
My son just called to let me know that he successfully completed SFAS (which now lasts three weeks instead of two weeks). He also suggested that I watch this video, because he said it's "pretty accurate" about what he's just been through. The training is even tougher now, and that's as it should be. Of his initial cadre of 330, only 130 were selected. He is a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan (sergeant in the Army) and I'm really proud of him. Here's a warning, though, for all the moms and dads out there: if your son is going to SFAS, watch this video AFTERWARDS. His three weeks in hell are also your three weeks in hell... wondering, hoping, praying, and worrying. I'm so glad that he was wise enough not to mention it to me beforehand! Excellent video.

Great Great Great
Great Video - Great Price - Great Speed. Thanks all the way around. A well made documentary that really gets across all the "hell" they have to go through just to get in. Amazing.UPDATE: I gave this video to my son for Christmas. He opened it to play it a couple of days later. It was cracked from the center all the way to the edge making it unplayable. I didn't ask for a refund as I purchased it in October and he didn't even open it until late December. But it is kind of a shame, we were both really looking forward to watching this great documentary.

Another reason to join the Marines!
Outstanding series that really gives you a very realistic and accurate picture of what it takes to make the cut at any number of very difficult military training courses. I know first hand and recommend this DVD set for anyone who has a family member serving, thinking about joining, or is planning to attend one of these courses. The Marine Corp and Army both have a number of very intensive training courses available for those with enough mettle and courage to attempt. Many more are too scared to even apply. Many fail out during the course. Yet, even those who try but fail are more courageous than those who are too scared to try. While both services have tough courses the big Army elite courses of Ranger and Airborne, train super-tough automatons but not commandos. Marine and Army Special Forces training instead is focused on training free-thinking commandos. I think the later type of training teaches better skills in the long-run.But the differences go even...

What?
Check out some of the videos on Marine Corps Training and then tell me about how hard Green Beret's THINK they train! I am a former active duty Marine, and the basic Marine training makes the Green Beret training look like Romper Room!

Review of Two Weeks in Hell
As a graduate of Ranger School Class 15-89, long before Smurf Eater was probably a twinkle in his daddy's eye, I found the episode very instructional and informative of the mindset and physical requirements to complete SFAS. If you pay attention and not only see but understand the mental and physical condition you must be in to survive such an endeavor, you can do anything, including SFAS.....or you can be a leg Marine and merely rely on the reputation and accomplishments of those who have come before you to define what and who you are.A damned good episode with much to learn from.

Only scratching the surface
I saw this special when it originally aired on Discovery. It's a great representation of the physical and mental toll that the SF goes through, regardless of branch (although it target the Army specifically). Even those without a military background can appreciate the quality of this video and how it depicts the first steps into the doorway of becoming SF. I'm no Green Beret, but I can still tell you that what you see in this show is only the beginning of a 2 year long training process unlike anything someone from the outside could ever understand, but at the very least it helps the average Joe appreciate what these guys do. One of the best inside looks I've seen, great job by Discovery on this one. I would recommend over and over again.

Product Description

The U.S. Army Special Forces Green Berets are America's unconventional warfare specialists. Whereas the military's focus usually is on brute-force tactics, the Green Berets rely on creative, innovative and stealthy tactics to destabilize an enemy from within. They are experts in guerrilla warfare, sabotage, and subversion. They live as the locals do, and they live by their wits.

This unique access special takes you deep inside the world of America's Green Berets. In a profession of order and regiment, this is the place for the unconventional and strong-willed. Finding these characters is a virtually impossible process. To find the unconventional thinker, you need an unconventional system to do it. Welcome to SFAS. Top to learn more

Week in Hell is Shangri-La for others
As I live in the bleary abyss of cornfields and woodlands of the midwest, I first became aware of the lovely Miss Molly Crabapple (and her equally lovely work) through the Twitterverse. In fact, you can (and should), follow her yourself @mollycrabappleBeing a lifelong comic fan and following several people in that field, I was scanning my twitter feed late one night and saw a retweet by none other than Mr. Warren F***ing Ellis. It was then that I became aware of a project called Week in Hell, by a tiny and hauntingly beautiful NYC artist named Molly Crabapple. After reading a bit about the project and scanning through her previous tweets, I was hooked. I followed the project via twitter and preordered the first volume through my LCS. (that's Local Comic Shop to all you non-geeks out there)As I understand it this is the first of a Three Volume set to be published through IDW Publishing, of which the second volume Devil in the Details, is currently available for preorder...

love of art...
For unknown reasons.. I am literally pulled into mollys work. This book is great showing her creative process and ideas from her surrondings. She initially set it up as a kickstart and it got over funded for this project. This is the result of it. Luckily enough, I made it to a book signing of hers and got an autograped copy. Recommend this book to anyone who wants to look at the world from an artists eyes...

How is this even possible? The next artistic genius of our time and no reviews yet?
I must say that having recently become an admirer of Molly Crabapple's provocative, delightful and totally engaging art work I was astonished to see that no one has written a review of Week In Hell... until now. This wild excursion into Molly's psyche consists of her deciding at the ripe old age of 28 to spend about 1 week in a NYC hotel room and do nothing but draw whatever came into her mind (and into her room), including some rather remarkable folks on all the walls (and TV) of that hotel room. Lest you be afraid that that would be vandalism or some form of interiorized Graffiti, Molly was kind enough to actually spare the walls of the room directly and secretly brought in enough drawing paper to cover all the walls (over 270 square feet!). She worked nonstop over 14 hours daily (except when she needed a shot of single malt whiskey, Champagne or Absinthe) and photographed this event in every possible way so that her art work could be well displayed in this concise but beautifully...

Product Description

In September 2011 artist and firebrand, Molly Crabapple, locked herself in a hotel room, covered the walls in paper, and filled 270 square feet of wall with art. The project, called "Molly Crabapple''s Week in Hell," is a wild ride through the imagination of an artist stretching herself to the limits of her endurance. Gorgeous photographs by Steve Prue show Ms. Crabapple''s sheer talent, audacity, and ambition at work. From the first stroke of pen upon paper to the glorious 360-degree view of a room full of art, this book chronicles the trials and joys of the Week in Hell, including visits from some of New York City''s artistic luminaries, absinthe parties, live models, and musical accompaniment. The project was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign which garnered 745 backers who watched the whole week unfold in live webcasts with the artist, following Molly Crabapple into the madness of art.

colonel
As a retired senior military officer, I found this DVD most informative and inspiring. Much has changed since I retired in 1986, and to see the new techniques and training aids that are out there to test the mettle of our fighting men and women, is most interesting. It is reassuring to know that we ARE the cutting edge in stealth, be it ground, sea, or air, materiel, or physical. Well documented and narrated. This training and the personnel who volunteer for this rigorous and demanding training are a tribute to the many who have given their lives to defend and support this great nation against any and all enemies, past, present, and into the future.

A favorite of my son and his fellow cadets
Fantasic price. This series is a big favorite of my oldest son. He is away at a military college and is not allowed to watch tv. One of the biggest things he misses is watching this series. Turns out it is a major hit with may of his platoon members as well. Hope season 2 is out soon.

Surviving The Cut
This is a great video and series that show what our elite fighting men can do under stress. I would have liked to have seen the Navy SEAL's BUD/S training, but it may have been omitted for security reasons. I would have liked to have seen the Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Swimmer training included in the series. I bet it was omitted because it is noncombat. But what other service will rescue a guy caught in 50 foot seas with no other way to save himself, but to call the Coast Guard! The Rescue Swimmer (AST) will always say "Yes I can do this, put me in coach" knowing he may well die in the attempt! The Rescue Swimmer's motto is "So Others May Live." This motto was derived from an officer's report of a rescue on December 22, 1884 by the Cape Hatteras Life Saving Station, North Carolina. The report said in part, "These poor, plain men, dwellers upon the lonely sands of Hattaras, took their lives in their hands and, at the most imminent risk, crossed the most tumultuous sea that any boat...

Where Can I buy Two Weeks In Hell

And so we have Black Ops 2 , a game set in the future that really doesn’t look all that much like its predecessors, and what may very well be a defining release for the entire Call of Duty franchise. Before it was announced, it was taken as gospel that everyone knew what it would be. That Treyarch and Activision have been bold enough to tread completely new ground should be commended: Call of Duty can no longer be called “predictable”. We’re going to get 60FPS Call of Duty gameplay infused with Bond-style war gadgets and Los Angeles getting bombed back to the Stone Age. This series has expertly covered World War II, the Cold War and World War III, and the games that do so continue to be played by millions of people. There’s been some wincing in the last 24 hours, as Activision revealed its next major Call of Duty release to be properly futuristic, a setting more in line with weapon-guessers like Ghost Recon than the “realism” we’ve learned to expect from CoD.
