Wish I had found out about these sooner!!!
What a great product and I wish I had known about them sooner, I could have saved a lot of my furniture!I found that the whole process was extremely easy.. however I did not do all nails in one sitting.. first I trimmed some of the cats nails and did this in a couple of days.. so as not to traumatize her.. then I would apply a couple of tips on - by myself in - and did that also in couple of days.. works like a charm.. and the cat does not seem to mind them.It was especially cute to see the cat jump on her favorite scratching chair and try and scratch - only to realize that she was not shredding the furniture.. Well worth it all!!If you have never trimmed your cats nails.. you might want to be careful and like the instructions say.. if you have never done it - you might want to start off by spending some time rubbing the cats paws to prep her for her PETacure (not manicure).

amazingly easy
I was doubtful this would work. It has prevented furniture clawing although the urge is still there and she scratches, no damage is done. I have a young child and I wanted to be able to spot any softpaw claw that came off and to tell with a glance if the cat needed a new one. My son picked the color to go with the cats collar. I applied them to both front and back (to prevent punctures when leaping from leather furniture). I found a recommendation to feed the cat immediately after application in order for the glue to dry fully and did this. It worked very well. The cat groomed for a day trying to get them off but they stayed. She now ignores them. I AM using this product again.

I love these!
I love the nail caps! It does take a while to get them on the cats for the first time, but practice makes it quick and easy. I usually pet and play with my cat for about 5 minutes after to distract them while the glue dries. When you need to trim their claws and put new ones on, you can cut right through the plastic tips and peel them off. I can find the clear ones in the stores, but the colored ones let you know immediately when one comes off.

Soft Paws
I was a bit skeptical at first, but the tips were super easy to apply, and the cats just couldn't care less. They tried to lick them off at the very beginning but quickly gave up. Now the little devils can't scratch anymore! BWAHAHAHAAAAA!

Saved my Cat
Our cat is 10 years old and is mostly my husband's cat. I am not really fond of cats because of their penchants for clawing everything (seemingly just because they can!) We never got her declawed because of the supposed pain and possible complications so as a result, we've lived with clawed furniture. Recently, however, we purchased a nice new micro-fiber sofa that was fairly expensive. We thought the cat would ignore it since she has a huge (8 foot) cat condo tower scratching post. I watched her during the day and no problems. Then the next morning...I discovered she had clawed the back of the sofa during the night! I called the vet to schedule the de-clawing! My husband said he wouldn't allow it and told me about the soft claws he had heard about. I had heard that the cats chew them off but I was willing to give it a try. They arrived in the mail and that day I clipped her claws and waited a couple of days before applying the Soft Paws. She is good about me...

Great Alternative to Declawing
I LOVE this product. It keeps our kitty from scratching furniture and people and makes him so much safer and easier to play with. It took practice to learn how to apply these (our vet tech trained us) and we find it easiest to apply the tips if one person holds kitty and another person has two free hands to glue on the tips. The kitty doesn't seem to mind having them applied or wearing them too much. They last a few weeks on average and when one falls off it only takes a minute to replace it.

Bitter Apple for Biting!
I used to be a Vet Tech and I used these soft claws at my work. I've seen dozens of cats declawed and it is HORRID. If only people could see how they howl in pain, bleed for hours, and are just miserable over all, people would NEVER think of declawing their cats if they had an ounce of compassion. For those who have issues with their cats biting off their soft claws, use Bitter Apple spray . It tastes awful and will discourage them from biting. I've seen lots of cats chew their soft claws off and this will discourage it. You can also buy Feliway, a pheromone spray, that will calm them down. I used to use it for animals that were very upset about being at the vet hospital I worked at. It really does work, but it is spendy! Spray it on bedding, couches, etc. It...

Great for cats, start using when kitten age
I highly recommend this as an alternative to declawing your cat. Most people are too lazy to attempt this because they have preconceived notions of how difficult it is to apply, or what have you.Try this product BEFORE you attempt to surgically remove a knuckle segment from the tips of your cats claws.I am about to get a new kitten, but my other cat took some getting used to with this. I recommend getting your kitten used to paw handling before you attempt this, and continue to handle your kitten's paws, so that they don't fight as much. Also, know that since your are covering your cats claws, you have to trim their claws yourself; since your cat isn't scratching and sharpening which is in essence filing down their claws, you have to make the effort to cut the excess off.For people who want to apply this without your cat scratching you, I always put my cat in a towel, making a "cat burrito". When I need a certain paw, I pull it out and wrap her up...

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful
We just adopted 2 kittens from our local shelter for our 6 year old and 3 year old kids. My husband wanted to get them declawed but I don't like declawing. So I thought I'd try these and it was the best thing I've done, the cats are 12 weeks old and it took them about 12 hours to really get used to them but now they don't even notice they are there. Now I don't have to worry about the kids getting scratced or my furniture for that matter, they have hot pink softpaws and it looks so cute especially on the black cat. I would definatly recommend trying these before declawing.

I'm still trying to decide if this is better than just clipping
I have two kittens, one about 4 months, one about 5 months. Each package comes with 40 claw covers, 4 tubes of glue, and 4 funnels for the glue. I placed the covers on the front claws only, as those are the ones the cats use to scratch my furniture, which means 2 applications per cat (or 4 applications for one cat). The instructions were adequate, but not as detailed as I would have liked.First, you need to trim your cat's claws. This doesn't come with a claw clipper, and I thought it was purely an alternative to clipping, so I didn't have a set of clippers. If your cats aren't already used to this, they will fight you.Second, open the glue and attach a "funnel" to the opening (when you get the set, you'll see what I mean). Then you get a claw cover (this package had two types, and I never have figured out the difference. I thought perhaps some of them were a bit smaller and tried to use these first). Fill the claw cover 1/3 full with glue, then place it on the...

The best alternative to declawing
After reading about how horrible declawing was, I resolved never to declaw my own cats. However, my new kitten didn't take to his scratching post, despite my best efforts. I decided I would rather have shredded furniture than mutilate my cat, but then I found out about Soft Paws. I wish I could hand out fliers at vets offices everywhere. This is the BEST product. Soft Paws are easy to use and they really work. For the first application, you fill all of the nail caps with a small amount of the glue, and then slip them on kitty's nails. My kitten was used to having his nails handled because I always trimmed them, as did his breeder. If your cat isn't used to you touching their nails, it might be a good idea to start massaging them while you are petting them a few days before hand.Once the nail caps are on, the cat might pull a few off, but they are easy to replace. My cat doesn't even seem to be aware of them anymore. After a month or so, a few will fall...

Easy to use and they've saved my apartment!
I am a huge fan of soft claws, especially the cleat lock system. I only find about one claw falling off a week, sometimes a couple more and sometimes none at all. It's very important for me to note that I started my kitten on these when she was very young, about 13 weeks old, and at the start they fell off quite a lot more often. I had to get after her whenever I saw her chewing them off. I also always cut and file her nails before putting them on and I only do her front paws.Tips that I've found useful: Frequently massage your cats paws before ever trying to file/clip/or apply soft claws, get them used to the idea of you messing with their feet. Do not try to apply soft claws when your cat is hyper, wait until you find them in a restful state. Holding your cat for a few minutes after applying the claws can be difficult, try setting them down in front of a bowl of their favorite wet cat food; your cat will likely be more interested in that than the claws, giving them time...

Wonderful to keep the furniture in tact..
I use this product constantly, I own a Sphynx and anyone who is an owner knows these cats get into everything. They climb, play and scratch all the time, and with claws like razors I was tired of bleeding and stuffing flying out of my furniture. Now of course the cat isn't thrilled with them although he has wore them for a few months now, but he has found how to get them off quicker which means applying a replacement frequently. I don't mind if it saves my blood and I don't have to buy new furniture every year. Very good value for others in the same situation, really easy to apply if you can get the cat to sit still, and last a long time if your cat leaves them be.

color preference
My kitty does not like the clear soft claws. The first 3 times the vet put on the clear ones she constantly chewed them off. I assumed she had not adjusted to them yet. On a whim I bought the black ones and had them put on. She never chewed on them. When one fell off I replaced it with a clear one that I had left over. As soon as she saw it was a clear one she pitched a fit and angrily chewed and chewed until she got it off. I was stunned to see her reaction. I had assumed the clear ones would be more natural looking and less noticeable to her. She definitely seems to prefer the black soft claws. She is a black and gray tabby so it could be they blend better with her natural coloring.Update: Kitty is now on her second set of black soft claws and seems perfectly content. I was thrilled when I found out my vet would apply the soft claws. I supply the soft claws and the vet trims the claws and applies the soft claws for $10. Occasionally one will fall off but now that she is...

Works great for my cat!
We just put these on my cat last week, and she adjusted to them very quickly. She shook her feet a bit at first, but only for a few minutes. Now she's much less pokey and can't destroy the carpets. I guess it varies a lot from cat to cat, but my cat is still wearing all of hers with no problems, so I think it's worth a try. This is a great alternative to declawing, which I am opposed to. Also, as a note, I would not recommend putting these on the back claws because the cat uses those to scratch. Imagine having an itch and not being able to scratch! It's probably ok if you leave just the inside back toe uncovered though.

Product Description

Soft Claws® Nail Caps for Cats and Kittens are a safe, effective and humane alternative to declawing! They are the Purrfect Solution for Problem Cat Scratching.

What are Soft Claws®?

Developed by a veterinarian, Soft Claws are vinyl nail caps that glue on to your cat's claws. The nail caps cover the claw tips so no damage occurs when your cat scratches.

Each package of Soft Claws contains 40 nail caps, 2 tubes of adhesive, applicator tips and easy to follow instructions.

One package contains enough nail caps for 4 applications on Kitty's front paws. Each application lasts approximately 4-6 weeks so one package lasts about 4-6 months.

Soft Claws come in a variety of sizes so your cat or kitten will have a purrfect fit, and in lots of fun colors plus clear for the most discreet feline.

What size should you buy?

Kitten: (less than 6 months old)
Soft Claws® will fit most kittens by the time they reach the age of 16 weeks (4 months). Some kittens can wear them as early as age 12 weeks (3 months). To test, try a nail cap on first without the adhesive. If it looks too big, don't glue it on. The nail cap should fit snugly, like a glove. To accommodate younger kittens, you can trim the base of the Soft Claws® nail cap making it smaller so it will fit your kitten's nail. Kittens up to about 5 pounds and/or 5 months generally fit the kitten size.

Small: (approximately 6 months old-approximately 6-8 pounds)
Some kittens at 5 months may need the small size if they are growing fast or are large-breed cats. Small-boned adult cats often wear the small size. If your cat seems smaller than an average full-grown cat, choose small.

Medium: (approximately 9-13 pounds)
Most adult average size cats wear medium.

Large: (approximately 14 pounds and up)
Very large-boned and large-breed cats wear large. Maine Coons, for example, are very large cats and generally wear large. Top to learn more

**Tips and Tricks** (and other useful bits of information)
My kitten is eight months old and ten pounds. She is now wearing the medium size Soft Claws. We started her on kitten size not too long ago, but she outgrew them quickly. When I was unsure about the sizing, the manufacturer sent me samples of each size to try on her. That was quite helpful.SOFT CLAWS VS. SOFT PAWSSoft Claws and Soft Paws are the exact same product from the same manufacturer. One is sold directly to the public and the other is marketed through veterinarians. Amazon sells both products.CLEAT LOCK SYSTEM (CLS)The Cleat Lock System is a newer feature of Soft Claws. They are little ridges within the nails which hold the cement and add more grip to the nails. It's only available in limited colors and not available at all on kitten sizes. The black Soft Claws I'm reviewing come with CLS. If you don't know which one you have, look at the nail cap. If the nail cap has color on the tips but is clear at the...

Where Can I buy Soft Claws

Soft Claws for Cats – CLS (Cleat Lock System), Size Medium, Color Clear Overviews Soft Claws® Nail Caps for Cats and Kittens are a safe, effective and humane alternative to declawing. To accommodate younger kittens, you can trim the base of the Soft Claws® nail cap making it smaller so it will fit your kitten’s nail. Developed by a veterinarian, Soft Claws are vinyl nail caps that glue on to your cat’s claws. Kitten: (less than 6 months old) Soft Claws® will fit most kittens by the time they reach the age of 16 weeks (4 months). The Soft Paws / Soft Claws for Cats get rave reviews all over the Internet. We have a Bengal kitten/cat, roughly 11 months old, which has his front claws removed but still has his rear claws. Soft Claws come in a variety of sizes so your cat or kitten will have a purrfect fit, and in lots of fun colors plus clear for the most discreet feline. Each package of Soft Claws contains 40 nail caps, 2 tubes of adhesive, applicator tips and easy to follow instructions. This might be a rare thing and obviously doesn’t happen to everyone, but I checked the medical literature and the American Veterinary Medical Association website and found that the safety of these nail caps has never been tested (in fact the AVMA... The nail caps cover the claw tips so no damage occurs when your cat scratches. The vet then recommended the Soft Claws product to us, so we eagerly ordered up a couple of packs from Amazon. What are Soft Claws®. While they did this successfully and both cats are comfortable having their nails trimmed, neither cat took to them in the ways described by other reviewers. Kittens up to about 5 pounds and/or 5 months generally fit the kitten size. Small: (approximately 6 months old-approximately 6-8 pounds) I got vinyl nail caps to curb the scratching (of me and of furniture) of two indoor cats. The problem is, several of the nail covers we received in our kits were slightly different in size and a few of them didn’t even have the slits cut in them, so we had to throw several of the covers away. We purchased the clear covers, which I highly recommend as it would probably be very hard to visualize how much glue you were squeezing into a colored nail cover.

The Soft Claws are recommended by veterinarians as a safe, effective, humane alternative to de-clawing your cat. All kittens come in different sizes and so do the Soft Claws.

But I have found that I really have to shove to get them on (which just makes her mad), and then it only goes maybe half way on. They should send out one cap in each size for free so that you can see what’s actually going to fit before you buy it... however, it’s been over 8 weeks and now they won’t come off, and we are dealing with the problem of the claws growing into these covers, and it was making one of my dogs limp. I bought the size that was recommended for my dog’s size (medium) and they were too small. ) If you have dogs that are partly outdoor, they come off when the dogs are running around the yard. We currently had our hardwood floor installed, and I have 2 hyperactive Jack Russells who also have sharp claws.

Cats sharpen their claws by kneading surfaces such as tightly woven rugs or wood in order to shed the old claw-shaped sheath and reveal the sharper claw beneath. Claws are used to knead soft surfaces, people or other cats for comfort. Offer a special treat that your cat adores and offer only when your cat approaches the area. You can also purchase cat pheromones in a plug-in form or spray form that will attract your cat to the area. Indoor cats may use their claws on furniture, bed box springs or wood surfaces in your home if you do not provide a scratching area. This theory was reinforced when an archeological dig in Cyprus discovered a cat purposely buried with a human in a tomb circa 7500 B. C. A study published in Science magazine concluded that based on genetic analysis it was likely the domestic cat... As a cat owner and veterinarian, I can relate to views of the cat as an object of awe and fear. A vertical pine board nailed into a wall is great because cats like to stretch vertically when exercising their claws and paws. Cats use their claws for many purposes. Cover up the preferred spot with tinfoil or heavy plastic and make the scratching area a better place to be. Praise your cat with the word “good” and immediately offer a treat when the area is approached. Claws are also used to hunt prey and for self-defense. It may take a month or two of five-minute training sessions to train your cat to the scratching area and away from the good furniture. Even if your cat is an adult, it can be trained to use the scratching area rather than your furniture. The scratching area should include a tightly woven rug and stable, preferably large, sisal-covered scratching post.
