If you have acid reflux, you should try this.
This is one of the top money-making drugs of all time, and for good reason. It works. I used to have pretty bad acid reflux. I would chew Pepcid Complete (which is an antacid drug combined with a base to neutralize acid) after every meal, as if they were after-dinner mints. Now, I just take Prilosec once a day, and now I almost never suffer from heartburn, and when I do, it is not as bad as it used to be. Trust me on this. This drug works differently than Pepcid or Zantac (I have a Ph.D in biology), so if those drugs don't work for you, don't be afraid to give this a try.

The only thing that works for me!
I have been a Prilosec user for about four years now. In the past, I would do the 2 week recommended period, then stop for a couple of weeks, and continue that cycle. My acid reflux never got any better except on the days I took the Prilosec. The day I would stop it would be right back. Finally, I found out that most people take it as a maintenace medication, so I started taking it once a day without fail and my acid reflux was finally gone forever! I used to wake up all night long with severe esophageal pain, sometimes vomiting right in bed from all the acid. It was such a nightmare. I would end up taking a half bottle of tums which still wouldn't work, and sleep sitting up. I tried every over the counter medication out there with no relief at all until Prilosec. works great if you take the correct dosage
prevacid does work well if you take the correct dosage. I took prevacid by prescription 30mgs and it work wonders on my reflux. Then I stopped taking it and it came back. Doctor put me on acipex, then my health insurance starting charging a 100 dolloar co pay. I started to take prevacid otc, but only took on pill 15mgs. the refux came back in a few days. I looked at the bottle and realized it was half of prescription strength and starting taking two pills. reflux improved after days and no problems since. its not unusual a drug that goes otc to have a lower dosage than when it was available by sript. so if it is not working for you, take two pills at once and you will be taking prescription strength dosage.

Replacement for Prevacid solutabs, 15mg
Our current prescription copay for the solutab form of Prevacid is $90 per month and insurance pays the rest. Our daughter needs to take Prevacid for acid control as she has GERD. She is 3 years of age now and takes the contents of one capsule twice daily with applesauce or pudding as a base. We save at least $30 per month by purchasing OTC Prevacid without insurance and avoiding the high cost of the solutabs. Our daughter's G.I. specialist gave the approval to switch to this medication form. I hope this information is helpful to other sufferers of GERD or caregivers of children/elderly with this condition.

Take Two, They're Small...
I used Nexium until recently, until my insurance up the drug to Tier 1 ($60.00 co-pay). I've tried Prilosec OTC, but like others I've experienced unwanted side-effects (mild cramping, most notably). Recently I tried Prevacid OTC, and at first I was disappointed because it seemed to last only part of the day. So I tried taking it twice a day (somewhat equivalent to the 20mg of Nexium I had been taking once a day), and that works just fine for me. Of course, that also makes it roughly twice as expensive as Prilosec OTC, but I do like the fewer side-effects and it works almost as well as Nexium... Disclaimer: I am no doctor, so please consult one before exceeding the manufacturer's recommendations :)

Long Haired Hippie Freak
Unlike the earlier reviewer, I have had extremely good luck with this product. My barber recommended this product to me, and I have been using it for just over a year. I don't have the hair that I did when I was 20, but I do have very noticeably fuller and thicker hair. It isn't just fuller and thicker on the back were most hair products work, but it has even given me more along the my previously receding front hairline. I just read the earlier review when I was getting ready to place my fourth order and thought the product deserved an opposing view.

Less hair in my brush must mean more on my head
I have only used this product for 35 days, however, it seems there is significantly less hair in my brush -- even in this short time. I know hair loss is seasonal, and depends on many factors beyond shampoo and conditioner used. However, I believe this product actually works! Both my wife and I have long hair which has always been very fine. Both of us now use Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner. We do not know if we are both experiencing less hair breakage, or if fewer hairs are being pulled from our scalps when we brush our hair after washing. We awarded four stars because we are seeing a difference in hair loss, if not fullness. We suggest you try the Nioxin System as we have. We will update our review after 90 days using Nioxin. So far, we are realy impressed!

Relief at last!
Truly a blessing! Now I finally understand why I have heartburn - it isn't a deficiency of Prilosec that's for sure. Had I known sooner, I could have solved the real problem and spared myself not only a lot of expense but also have avoided the side effects of the drug. Helpful Information for Heartburn Sufferers
This book is by a Certified Clinical Nutritionist who is familiar with dietary dilemmas and various supplements. She has crowded a wealth of information into this compact book. I found it helpful although it has not solved by problem with GERD -- more about that below. I did not realize that I had a real problem with reflux until an endoscopy showed some damage to my esophagus. I had known for a long time that I had food allergies and sensitivities, and had found it necessary to avoid an increasing number of foods and beverages in order to avoid symptoms. But my symptoms were varied and rarely involved heartburn, or so I thought. It turns out that coughing and chest pain are sometimes the primary symptoms of heartburn/GERD, and once I got the diagnosis of GERD and looked it up, those symptoms started making sense. Excellent resource for long-term GERD sufferers
This book offers a plausible theory (too little acid) that explains why a long-term GERD sufferer like me was never helped by the common offerings from the medical establishment (Prilosec, Nexium and the like). It also offers solutions to various gastric problems that are simple, cheap, EFFECTIVE and supported by extensive scientific explanations. The 4-star instead of 5-star is due to the preachy tone in the introduction.

Zegerid for the win!
My doctor put me on Prilosec OTC for my hiatal hernia and heartburn. It worked for awhile but then I starting getting frequent stomach aches. Enter Zegerid! Though it contains the same ingredient (Omperazole 20mg/Acid Reducer) as Prilosec OTC, it contains one extra ingredient which makes it much more effective. Zegerid contains 1100mg of Sodium Bicarbonate which allows for better absorption of the Omeprazole by preventing your stomach acid from desolving it before it can go to work. I've also tried Pepcid AC, Prevacid, Pepto Bismol, you name it....and have found Zegerid to be the best heartburn fighter on the market today.

Give it a chance - this stuff is great!!
I am someone who has suffered many GI difficulties over the years. The heartburn was so bad that it turned to reflux and then to Baretts Esophagus which is something you don't want to have. After taking Prilosec (or generic Omeprazole which is OTC and the same thing) for a long time, my last test indicated things were worse, not better. My Gastro Dr. recommended Align and Zegerid OTC. I have included both of these items into my routine, taking both first thing in the morning and another Zegrid late afternoon. I pay no attention to 1 hr before meals, etc... I had also been making mental notes on what foods were causing my heartburn, etc... In combination with the Zegrid, some changes to what I am eating and when I eat, I feel fantastic!!! NOTE: For anyone taking this medication or is thinking about it, go for it but you need to be responsible. This is not a magic pill so you will need to make some dietary changes. Omeprazole + Baking Soda = long term treatment + immediate relief
Sodium bicarbonate sound familiar? It should. You probably have a box laying around somewhere, and it's been used as an antacid for decades. It's baking soda. When calcium (Tums) wasn't working to provide me with short term relief any more, I switched to drinking a half teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a glass of water at night (when I have my worst problems). Worked like a charm. Then I found this product. On occasion, I even find it for less than 20 mg of omeprazole (generic of prilosec). The box claims this baking soda aids in the absorption of the omeprazole, and who knows, maybe there's something to that, but the most immediate thing you'll feel comes from the antacid nature of the baking soda. Just like Tums, the baking soda is a base that neutralizes your stomach acids. This is a short term solution, just like tums. I kissed that heartburn and acid goodbye !!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE READ DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USING Prilosec OTC saved the day for me on numerous occasions when I had heartburn. This drug also fights acid in your stomach; and that's a big help! The tablets are easy to swallow and you should use them before any expiration date printed on the outside of the purple box. My one complaint is that Prilosec takes one to four days for it to give you the full effect. Although they say that some people get full relief in one day, it took me a couple of days to get the full effect. If you must have total relief from your stomach trouble right away then you need to choose another drug. This does disappoint me so I will take off one star to make this a four star review. Of course, if you have any questions about this drug that aren't addressed on the outside package then you should consult your doctor or pharmacist. Full relief and allows you to heal
I started using prilosec for severe acid reflux a couple of years ago as a preventive after years of treating symptoms with other drugs like Tagamet. Those drugs worked fine, but I wanted to prevent reflux all the time without having to plan ahead. At the time, I experienced reflux heartburn at least four nights per week. Not only was it interfering with my sleep and happiness, it had burned my esophagus to the point where I was experiencing "hanging" food -- rough pieces of food hanging up on the scar tissue in the esophagus, which caused discomfort and occasional vomiting. In addition, certain strong liquids, such as neat whiskey, which I greatly enjoy, burned so much going down that I had to stop drinking them.
