Great beer; easy to do; very rewarding
If you are looking for a way to make your own beer, but don't want to spend hours and hours doing it, and don't want to mess it up several times before getting it right, then Mr. Beer is for you. I fail to understand why my buddies are so keen on the old fashioned home brew kits (that include a 5 gallon "carboy", lots of hoses, lots of patience and lots of technical abilities), when this one makes really excellent beer for about 10% of the effort. And who really wants to make 44 botles of beer at once?? One kit make 12 20-oz bottles (or 20 12-oz bottles).I have made dozens of batches of beer from the hundred or so recipes offered by Mr. Beer, and all of them are excellent. There is the occasional batch that I am just a little too careless with my sanitization steps, and these have a bad "off flavor," but this has happened only twice, and the off flavor seems to diminish with time. It is hard for me to drink other beers now (even excellent ones like Guiness and Sam...

I LOVE IT!
I have never had a bad batch of Mr.Beer. The three pack of mix is a great value, its like getting one free. The only tip I have that I havent seen posted is when bottling, fill every bottle a little bit at a time. Fill each bottle a third until full. This process ensures that each bottle has about the same amount of settiment in the bottom. This in turn ensures a more consistent carbonation across the batch. More settiment=more yeast=more carbonation. You dont want half of your bottles to be rock hard and half to be soft after a few days.

Good stuff
I bought the variety pack and brewed my first batch of Nut Brown ale. It was fairly easy to make except it didnt come with mixing instructions so I had to find them on the internet (I have a different beer maker than a Mr. Beer). Would have been nice to include those.This mix is far better than the other beer mixes that I have tried. It tends to mix easier than the powdered stuff. Overall the beer was tasty, but it needed time to clear up. The first few drinks of it early on were ok but as the beer sat and cleared up it got a lot better, so give it time (2 weeks atleast). Great way to brew beer
I got the Mr. Beer kit from a buddy a few weeks before Christmas, and have been having an absolute blast with it! By far the best Christmas present I got this year.The nice part about Mr. Beer is that the standard recipe process is very easy to do (read: very hard to screw up). This gives an inexperienced brewer like me the confidence to be imaginitive and creative, while keeping the chances of really messing up a batch pretty low. I've already done standard ales, honey wheat ale, and honey-apple ale. All taste very good, and the taste continues to improve!!This is a MUST-have gift for any die-hard beer drinker!!

I received the Mr. Beer kit for Xmas, and it's a good system overall. It serves as a very good introduction to home brewing, but it does have some downsides as well.Good bits:-The system is about as easy as it could be.-The instructions are clear and simple.-The fermenting tank is small (2 gallons), meaning that you don't have to wait around for a long time to taste the final product. With your more normal 5 gallon kits, you have to bottle a LOT of beer, and wait a bit longer for fermentation.-There's dozens of mixes available on their homepage, and they offer a lot of quality products at reasonable prices. Homebrew for the beginner or the hobbyist
Having read most of the reviews here for Mr. Beer I felt I would add my two cents. I have brewed beer using the standard "medieval sorcery" kit that is advertised on most homebrew websites and with the Mr. Beer kit. Having done both, I prefer the Mr. Beer kit. The Mr. Beer kit is a great introduction to brewing. You can make it as simple as you want or do more complicated things with it as well. It is simply a scaled-down, stand-alone, and single-stage fermenter. If you want to do a full boil on your wort, add fruits etc. and use it for that, it can work just as well as any other plastic pail. The nice thing for beginners is that it comes with nearly everything for brewing your first beer for half the price of even the cheapest "starter" kits at most brew shops. The thing that I like about it versus other systems is that it makes a smaller amount, takes up less space, and Mr. Beer, as a company, is really dedicated to making homebrewing simple and fun. I'm really impressed with the kit and the beer it makes
My wife got me this for my birthday last month, and I was really excited about trying it out...which, like a kid with a new toy, I did almost immediately. The instructions are easy to follow and the components are easy to assemble and use -- I had my first batch (of 'Cowboy Lager') sitting in the keg after about 45 minutes of reading and work in the kitchen.The minimum amount of time the mix needs to sit in the keg is 7 days -- I let this first batch sit for 11. The longer the time in the keg, the more flavor it's supposed to develop. I bottled the mix -- 8 liters in all -- and that was another simple process, going exactly as described in the instructions. The beer has to ferment in the bottles for no fewer than 7 days in order to carbonate. My 8 bottles are still sitting, after 8 days. I plan on letting them sit for another week before putting them in the fridge so they'll be 'conditioned' in time for Christmas.I did, however, make an extra bottle from the...

Best Christmas Gift EVER for the guy in your life!
We purchased this kit last year. It is inexpensive and easy enough for a beginner. The kit includes EVERYTHING so there won't be the apprehension that you might have more money to put into this project. The bottles and barrel are lightweight. The barrel can easily sit on your counter as it takes up little space. I didn't even notice it was there! My husband was thrilled to be making HIS OWN brew! Truly macho! The first bottle wasn't the best but after fermenting for a while the rest of his first batch of beer was quite drinkable. I know he will be making beer all winter long! You can give it to him for Christmas, unlike that cashmere sweater, this won't get stuck in a drawer! AND, if you are lucky, he may make some bottles to give to friends as gifts. Great beer, great value!
I have been brewing with the Mr. Beer keg for a couple months and I am very satisfied so far. Amazon.com is definitely the best place to get the refills because of the free super saver shipping and the 4 for 3 option could be good too. I read the other reviews before I made my purchase of the variety pack so I expected to get the Blonde Ale, Golden Lager, and the Linebacker dopplebock, which is exactly what I got! I received my beer mixes three days after ordering and the box and beer mixes are in great condition. They look new to me, and the cans of malt extract say use by 2012.My first batch of Mr. Beer was the west coast pale ale which came with the brewing keg, and I used tap water filtered with a brita filter. This resulted in some off flavors, an "antiseptic" like flavor which went away after about 2 weeks of cold conditioning, and so I would recommend using store bought filtered water because it doesn't have the chlorine which will make your beer have off...

EasyPeasy good domestic beer
Okay, this is the bare basic of the Mr. Beer mixes, but if you just want plain ol' beer without buying and playing around with Unhopped Malte Extract (UME) or fancy yeasts and hops--then you've got yourself 6 gallons of beer at the cheap Amazon price of 30 bucks (do the math, your paying $1.25 for a quart of beer--but you made it yourself!). It's typically free shipping at that price.Here's some advise, follow the directions precisely, especially sanitization, but double the fermenting period to 2 weeks and the carbonation period to 2 weeks, store the bottles in your Mr Beer box during carbonation (or another closed box). After that, let them sit in the fridge for another 5-7 days (the longer the better). It will be just right and fizzy and clean. Don't add extra sugar to the wort, the "booster" is your sugar. Oh boy....empty bottles.
Okay...so I'm the first to review...empty bottles? I'm new to the homebrewing game since a friend gave me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. I ordered these empties from Amazon just before starting my first batch (it's still fermenting).First, I was amused by the title: Mr. Beer Deluxe Bottling System? Jeez, talk about dressing up a sow's ear into a silk purse. About like calling a ballpoint pen a 'deluxe manual writing instrument'. If you read the word 'system' and thinking there would be hoses, funnels or other stuff, you'd be wrong. Just 8 bottles, 8 caps and 8 lables. All joking aside, the bottles seem quite sturdy, and the caps fit nicely. I was a little amazed by the large size: 1 US quart each. That will be a big change for someone like me who is use to sipping beer 12 ounces at a time. But if I'm doing my math right, even these eight bottles won't be enough, since the Mr. Beer kegs hold 2 and 1/2 gallons. Need to have a couple of other bottles for the extra that will be...

This product was as received and it works good for what you need it for. If you want better bottled beer though, Buy a case of Grolsch flip top bottles from your local beer store. They are a little pricey, but you get to drink the beer that is already in them, and then save the bottle for your Mr. Beer collection.

If you need bottles for your home brew, this is what you need.
These bottles come with the more expensive Mr Beer kit but if you are like me and didn't get the bottles with your kit and/or realized you wanted to brew more than one batch at the same time these are both perfect for the job and pretty good value for money. Each set of 8 bottles will perfectly hold a full fresh batch of beer. You get 8 one litre plastic bottles that are brown in color to help keep the beer fresh and away from direct sunlight. I actually keep my bottles of beer in the carry box that comes with the bottles as this guarantees that they are always away from the light that is bad for the beer. Being plastic also helps the first time brewer. The Mr Beer kits use an in bottle fermentation stage. If you get this stage wrong, it can result in glass bottle alternatives exploding which can be both messy and dangerous. These plastic bottles let you feel how pressurized they currently are. Gotta Agree with the Others
Okay, so this cuts a bunch of corners from traditional beer brewing. That's the appeal! This makes home brewing so easy, that if true home brewers didn't turn their noses up, something would be wrong.I'm a busy guy with two kids and a self-owned business. There's little time in my life for hobbies. Having a kit like this allows me to brew beer at home with only about 1/2 hour per session committed.The fun part is that the ingredients are so varied that you can literally mix and match with endless combinations of flavors, bodies, alcohol contents, etc. It's not a true "just add water" system as I've heard suggested. If it were, the fun would be gone. You do have to put together a recipe (many of which are available online to get you started) and go for it.Beer brewing for the time impaired person with other responsibilities. It's lot's of fun and the beer is darned good too.

Makes an awesome brew
So finally getting around to reviewing this thing. A quick rundown: Mr. Beer is basically a stripped down method of home brewing. While "real" home brewing is not brain surgery by any means, Mr Beer takes a lot of the legwork and time out of the equation. There is no boiling or steeping needed, no need to prepare airlocks, no need to rack the beer to a secondary fermenter, etc. Its extremely "dumbed down", for lack of a better term. But don't let that deter you! The MAIN thing to first timers: Do NOT judge this kit by the initial creation!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough! The kit will come with a can of hopped malt extract, usually the West Coast Pale Ale or the Canadian Draft and a package of "Booster", which is basically corn sugar. These base ingredients, when used properly, will provide a PASSABLE beer. But honestly, it's just a way for you to learn how to do it. A bottle of budweiser will likely taste much better.
