KRONOS - Should be a 50's Sci-Fi Classic!
I just finished watching "KRONOS: Ravager of Planets" and it was excellent! Starring Jeff Morrow of "This Island Earth" fame and written by Irvin Block (Forbidden Planet), KRONOS has above-average effects for it's genre and the story is very good. The giant alien machine/robot from outer space, known only as "KRONOS", is a fresh idea thrown into the mix of 50's classic invaders-from-space type films. If you enjoy collecting classic b&w 50's Sci-Fi, then KRONOS is an excellent addition to your DVD library. I only wish the DVD special features contained more. The Theatrical Trailer, Scene Selection and Feature Movie are the only options on the DVD. Anyway, it's still an enjoyable and fun classic Sci-Fi flick, which no collector should be without!

Product Description

Scientists at a "Top Secret" atomic research laboratory are taken over by strange fantastic control devices launched from an orbiting space ship inhabited by a hostile super-intelligence from beyond the stars. Simultaneously, a gigantic flying saucer crashes in the Gulf of Mexico and Kronos, a giant metallic monolith monster, emerges. Unstoppable, it slashes across the countryside, draining the earth of all it's electrical energy and beaming it into space. Kronos, a weapon so perfect in design it absorbs a direct hit by a Hydrogen bomb and becomes that much more powerful! Atomic age excitement! Atomic age thrills! All in out-of-this-world "Regalscope" format for the first time on DVD. Top to learn more

Astronomer and all-around scientific hero Jeff Morrow (he of the stone face, Cro-Magnon brow, and heavy voice of dire intonation) discovers a new celestial body that suddenly changes course and slams into the Pacific Ocean off the Mexican coast. Meanwhile a mysterious white light takes over the body of lab director John Emery, who becomes the eyes and ears of the UFO when it emerges days later as a skyscraper-sized robot. Morrow and his crew--including his beauty-with-brains girlfriend, Barbara Lawrence; wisecracking sidekick, George O'Hanlan; and computer, SUSIE, which whirs and blinks but offers little real help--leap to the rescue, but not before the Mexican air force takes on the giant in a scene reminiscent of King Kong. Director Kurt Neumann, best known for the original The Fly, gives this low-budget sci-fi thriller an impressive scope, sending the striking, austerely designed giant robot (a walking battery with piledriver legs) marching across a B&W widescreen frame like a relentless tank and punctuating the drama with an impressively chilling A-bomb blast. Though hardly a classic, this is one of the more interesting alien invasion movies of the paranoid 1950s. --Sean Axmaker Top to learn more

The First Monster of the INDUSTRIAL age!!!
What a great monster! I always loved watching "Kronos" as a kid....who couldn't love this massive metal giant rectangle stampeding across the country using it's piston shooting legs?!?!? And now the new DVD release finally gives us the film in it's original widescreen (scope!) ratio....WOW!!! I remember the full-frame version chopped off newspaper headlines and other action terribly. This new transfer looks great. Ya, the movie suffers a little bit from talky moments, but it's still campy fun and whenever Kronos is on screen...it's Fantastic! Industrial Mayhem!!!! Kronos will suck you dry!

Best I've ever used!
I tried this product through one of those trial offers. (Note: Do not do this as they send you a kit of 4 products and bill you $98 if you don't return it within the month.)So I was anxious to see if I could get it here on Amazon and I'm delighted I can.I'm not sure if my hair has gotten thicker, but it shines like crazy! I haven't colored my hair in about 2 months and aside from the roots, my hair looks totally healthy and natural. And a great shine! Light and fluffy feel even if I don't wash my hair every day. This is positively the best shampoo I've ever used. I don't even need the conditioner!Yes, it is costly, but you can avoid waste by adding some water to the shampoo. You have to be careful not to dump it all in your hand, but you won't be using as much shampoo as if you used it without the water. In other words, less waste and lasts longer.I highly recommend this shampoo!Thank you!MEF

Kronos Works
I have tried many shampoos for baby fine thinning hair. Most don't do much, but I have rated this as a five star because it does give my hair extra volume. I've been using this product for at least a year.

Totally Awesome!
This shampoo, while definitely expensive, is the best I've ever used. I bleach my hair, so it gets dry sometimes, but this shampoo adds moisture while also adding great volume. My hair is straight as a stick, but it takes and holds curl a lot better now. I highly recommend it. Like another customer, though, I definitely advise against ordering it on the special. One of the "extra" products that they sent along for me to try was horrible. I used the "leave-in" treatment overnight, and it was so strong that it burned my nostrils and all I could smell for two days was the smell of the product. I ended up plugging my nose with tissue and breathing through my mouth - not attractive, but necessary! Stick with the shampoo and you'll be delightfully surprised!

Not A Classic, But A Decent Effort
The creators of this movie deserve credit for having tried someone a little different in the alien menace line, a genuine mechancial monster which actually has a rational purpose in mind (i.e. the harvesting of energy for an alien world which has already exhausted its natural resources--and note the ahead of its time warning that we might someday be in the same predicament.)Considering the limited budget they had available, they did a decent job. I think the opening credits are downright elegant in their clean simplicity and Kronos itself is a beautiful Art Deco menace.Of course, the science is ridiculous. Power planets CREATE power, they don't contain power. Getting energy by sucking it from a power plant is like getting shoes by sucking them from a cobbler! Also, I still wonder, since the walking pistons on Kronos only go up and down, how did it get any forward motion? Wouldn't it have just eventually drilled itself a nice hole in the ground and disappeared from...

Love this stuff!
I have really thin, fine hair and have tried dozens of products. This one, while not designed specifically for thinning hair, works great! I use the whole product system and while the expense was a little off putting at first it has been worth every penny. I have good volume, shine, and strength. My hair also looks and feels thicker. I do stress, you need to use the whole the system, I skipped using a part for a while and my hair really suffered.

The Power of Musical Repetition
Eastern spiritual musical devices of mantra-like repetitions and extended space between notes, from Hindustani bhajans to Japanese gagaku to Russian orthodox liturgy, had entered Western classical music in several waves. Tchaikovsky's and some Bruckner symphonies are filled with elaborations of repeated phrases, Morton Feldman opens up to those pregnant silences between brief phrases, and pulsing appegios figure in early American minimalism of Glass and Reich. Martynov carries on the style, versed in both classical and Russian Orthodox music. His Beatitudes, track 1, a reworking for quartet, is outgoing sweet and, well, blissful, and his Schubert-like quintet has the Romantic harmonies and moods of the old master but also strong rhythmic repetitions of riffs. These tracks, too, are light and enjoyable and are in reference to the String Quintet in C major with two cellos, here with the added performance of former Kronos member Joan Jeanrenaud. The final track takes a turn to somber...

A Composer Unfamiliar to Me, Beautifully Rendered
"The Beatitudes" is a passacalia of simple beauty over which a Russian folk-style melody spins out in subtle variation. It's as immediately appealing as the Pachelbel Canon (a passacalia also), and I've never heard the Kronos play with such sumptuous tonal beauty. The "Schubert Quintet" is a nod to the great Schubert C major quintet (one of my favorite pieces), but is an original composition. It's more hard-edged, with a relentless octaves motif that is passed among the five players (Joan Jeanrenaud joins Kronos as the additional cello for this piece). It's got dramatic pauses, and lulling interludes, then returns to the driving motif again and again. It's emotional world reminds me of the "Death and the Maiden" quartet. It's a beguiling homage to Schubert in that I can here Schubert's sound world and emotional world, but it is not imitative. The final piece, "Der Abschied" is heartbreaking--a long slow good-bye to a loved one, not a tragedy, but the...

The Luminous Beauty of Vladimir Martynov
For some strange reason the music of Vladimir Martynov has essentially eluded most US concert halls. For many this incredibly beautiful recording by the Kronos Quartet will correct that. It has been three years since the last recording from this premiere ensemble and so it is more than a welcome return, especially considering the selection programmed. At bit of history is probably essential to understand the unique voice of Martynov: `Vladimir Martynov is a Russian composer, born 1946 in Moscow, known for his music in the Concerto, Orchestral Music, Chamber Music and Choral Music genres. He is a leader of the generation of composers of the Soviet Union, born after World War II, who pursued avant-garde courses at a time when official disfavor of such styles brought severe penalties to career development, but did not carry the physical risks of earlier years in the USSR. He studied piano as a child and gained an interest in composition. Vladimir Martynov enrolled in the...

Product Description

Their first release since 2009, The Music of Vladimir Martynov includes three works written for Kronos by the leading Russian composer: "The Beatitudes" (1998, rescored for Kronos, 2006), "Schubert-Quintet (Unfinished)" (2009), and "Der Abschied" (2006). Kronos' artistic director and founder David Harrington says Martynov's music "straddles various points of musical history and time; the music seems to me to reflect and absorb humanity in such a beautiful way."

Born in Moscow in 1946, Martynov was the son of a well-known musicologist and writer. He studied music from a young age and attended the Conservatory before expanding his musical pursuits beyond the traditional classical canon and into folk songs, early music, avant-garde, rock, and electronic music. In 1979, he entered the Spiritual Academy at the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, where he worked on preserving and restoring traditional Russian Orthodox chant. He returned to composition in the 1990s with a new style that combined the traditions of American minimalism with the repetitive chant of Russian Orthodoxy. Top to learn more

A rather progressive undertaking...
Having already swam in rather innovative waters with DR. JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE, the team of Brian Clemens and producer Albert Fennell (of TV's The Avengers fame) were again recruited by Hammer Films for a rather progressive undertaking. Clemens' creation of the character Captain Kronos was hoping to revitalize the company's vampire genre and at the same time generate a new series of films (rumors of a TV series also surfaced). But nothing could prevent the decline of Hammer, and CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER was box office doom due to poor distribution in the U.K. and lack of attention on its U.S. double-billing with FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL. It didn't help that the film sat on the shelf for a full two years after it was made.Captain Kronos (played smoothly by German actor Horst Janson) is a 19th century war hero traveling across Europe with his brainy hunchback sidekick Professor Grost (John Cater from the "Dr. Phibes" films). Self-proclaimed vampire...

Captain Kronos (Horst Janson; Murphy's War) , a vampire hunter and expert swordsman who, with the assistance fo the beautiful gypsy Carla (Caroline Munro; The Spy Who Love Me) and his hunchbacked assistant, Professor Grost (John Cater; Rising Damp), roam the country in search of vampires. On their travels, the trio happens upon a village where they find that a vampire has been draining the youth from beautiful, young girls. Devising a daring plan, Captain Kronos and his aids attempt to save the village before the death toll equlas the population. Top to learn more

Forget Van Helsing. Captain Kronos is the great swashbuckling vampire hunter. Hard-faced Horst Janson is the brooding Kronos, a rangy, sword-wielding soldier who hunts the vampire scourge with his jovial hunchbacked partner, Grost (John Cater), and his earthy peasant girl lover, hazelnut eyed beauty Caroline Munro. Director-writer Brian Clemens, who so entertainingly put genres in the blender on the TV series The Avengers, imaginatively rewrites vampire lore from the film's haunting first scene: a shrouded, shadowy predator (looking more like death incarnate than a traditional vampire) drains a comely maiden of her very youth, leaving the girl an aged, wizened husk. Clemens lacks the budget and the cinematic snap to bring his visual ideas to full fruition, but his well-wrought characters, inspired ideas, and swashbuckling swordfights make this entertaining reinterpretation of the vampire movie a cult classic. --Sean Axmaker Top to learn more

Begs for a sequel
This is certainly one of the most unorthodox and best of the Hammer films. While the title screams "cheese," it is in fact a well-plotted, confidently-directed film that was well ahead of its time (in light of the subsequent appearance of such films as "Vampire Hunter D" and "Blade"). It is also refreshingly low-key, making the most of atmosphere and an unusual premise, rather than cheap shocks. It may not be gory, and some of the effects certainly expose its low budget origins, but the sheer inventiveness of the film makes it worth seeking out. It's the little touches that make the film great, from the inspired score to the novel twists on vampire lore. And of course the unmistakable colors and sights of Hammer films. "Kronos" also stands up nicely to repeat viewings, something that can't be said for a lot of horror films. I suspect that the solidness of the character-- part Sabatini hero, part Peckinpah anti-hero-- has something to do...

The Only Man Alive Feared by the Walking Dead!
Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1974) aka Kronos is one of the better films to come from Hammer Studios in the 70's. It's basically a horror movie with a heaping helping of adventure thrown in and just a whole lot of fun.Written and directed by Brian Clemens, the film stars German actor Horst Janson as Captain Kronos, a master of the sword and ex-solider, a freelance vampire killer, accompanied by the hunchbacked Professor Hieronymos Grost (John Cater), an authority on vampirism and good friend to Kronos. The film also stars the lovely and infinitely easy on the eyes Caroline Munro who appeared in others films like Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974), and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).The film wastes no time on the horror aspect as we witness a young, comely woman in the woods attacked by a mysterious, cloaked stranger. The once young woman is now old and withered, due to having her youth literally drained from her person. A couple...

If you go for vintage bike, you are still likely to meet stem shifters and extension levers, but just make sure they have quality derailleurs, like Shimano 600 (Ultegra on new bikes), 150, Exage, or other higher-end models. Needless to say, I did not enjoy those rides very much, and it almost ruined biking for me. I ended up using the bike more so on flatter surfaces with predictable routes. My current bike is not a vintage, but not exactly a new-order bike either. Moral of the story: don’t buy Free Spirit bikes. My advice to you: don’t buy a Free Sprit bike. Buying a road bike as a beginner can be quite the daunting task. The Kronos is an absolute treat to ride when compared to the Free Spirit. It’s a Giant Kronos touring bike.
