Much, Much Better Than The US Version
I watched this to make a comparision between the US and Australian version, which used a much lower budget, and I prefer the Australian version. This is not as polished, dry and sarcastic, more mature themes and requires experience to fully understand (age). Most of the more "mature" comments would fly over the head of kids so it's not a crisis if they watch it; a man in a dog suit fully captures their attention. There's no graphic violence or action in it.This could be used as an example of a show that has not been watered down for US audiences and shows that have cost 10x's more to become "better than whatever else is on".This is a great show. I'm hunting down season 2 now (on DVD since 2010) ... somewhere. I'm concerned that it's so hard to get content made in other regions.

Sex and Dogs and Rock n' Roll
Well maybe not too much `rock'; this is an Australian comedy that was imported to Britain (and remade in the USA with 'The Hobbit' bloke) just to really prove our wacky sense of humour has grown somewhat differently down under, or has it?Well this is about a man Adam, who gets emotionally attached to Sarah, she has a dog who is the Wilfred in the title. Adam is apparently a bit depressed and so this gives him the power to see Wilfred as a man in a dog costume, this is never ever explained though. Everyone else treats him as a dog. The other thing he can speak (like Brian of `Family Guy') smoke joints, drink beer and generally act like the worst house guest in history. He also likes to sit up watching DVDs with Adam giving him life advice and arguing whilst mispronouncing words.Wilfred's primary function is to protect Sarah (and dig holes and go to the toilet a lot) and that means not trusting any of her lovers, he has been hurt in the past. So we go on a series...

An acquired taste
The premise of this show made me laugh. It did take me awhile to get into. The show did remind me a little bit of Flight of the Conchords in that it is very deadpan. Also I think that some people will hate it.Wilfred is well acted and generally well done. There were some great lines, scenes and comic situations. I was quite impressed that they didn't always go for the obvious jokes and didn't repeat themselves too much. Though sometimes I felt that they could have made more of them and for me at least it wasn't often laugh out loud funny.Overall I did enjoy watching it and it made smile quite often.
