Great Razor!
After getting into DE Safety Razor shaving about a year ago, I decided to get what appears to be the number one razor brand, Merkur. I had a Parker razor which also was highly rated. The main difference for me has been less cuts and a closer shave. Not sure how that can be but that has been my experience. I've also switched to the Merkur blades, that might be part of my new experience. I am a German car guy, camera lenses, now razors. Not that it makes the difference but the Parker is made in India. I'm VERY happy with my new razor and really ENJOY shaving with it. Also, the results and feeling after a good shave. Highly recommended! Top to learn more
Perfect razor for my needs
Decided to go back to a safety razor after 20 years of double through five blade razors and boy am I really, really glad that I did.Purchased the 38C and Jagger DE8911 same day and I rotate both razors but over all the Merkur weight feels just right in my hands and the cutting edge seems to provide a closer shave for me than the Jagger. Nothing wrong with the Jagger, the finish is beautiful and I find certain blades work better with the DE8911 than the Merkur but my overall closest shaves are with the Merkur. DO yourself a favor and pickup a 38C and you will never look back. Top to learn more

Just fine for what I needed
I use razor blades regularly because I do small-scale work on wood (I make reeds for musical instruments). I usually use the regular .009 American Line razor blades at Home Depot, but had heard good things about Extra Keen blades and found these at a VERY good price here on Amazon, so I decided to give them a try.They are NOTICEABLY sharper than the regular .009 blades, which made me happy. They are more suited to my work than regular blades, and I'll definitely continue to purchase these. They cut very easily, and hold an acceptable edge longer than regular blades.I've also used GEM extra-keen blades, which are the sharpest around (those might even be medical grade, even) and these American Line ones are noticeably less sharp. But given that GEM blades are twice the price and difficult to find, I'll take these any day. Very happy to see these on Amazon! Top to learn more

The Best Shave
I remember the day I purchased the new 5 blade razor from Gillette. I was excited and hopeful that FINALLY I wouldn't have to deal with razor burn, bumps, etc anymore. Alas, 5 blades aren't better than 4, just as 4 blades weren't better than 3, so on and so forth. As it turns out you just need one simple little blade to do the trick.After reading the article 'How to Shave Like Your Grandpa' (http://artofmanliness.com/2008/01/04/how-to-shave-like-your-grandpa/) I decided to switch to a high quality shaving cream, badger brush, and aftershave lotion. I also purchased the Merkur razor and extra blades. The difference cannot be put into words. The best I can do is 'simply amazing'. I never, never get any kind of irritated skin post-shave. I cannot feel one bit of stubble afterwards, even if I run my hand against the grain. The quality of the shave is unsurpassed (at least for at-home shaves. This is one awesome razor!
I've used disposable razors on my legs forever and never once felt satisified with my shaving experience. The last straw happened recently when Amazon sent me a few free schick quattro's. I gave them a try thinking hmmm, four blades must equal one good close shave but unfortunately for me four cheap blades equal lots of razor burn and hair clogging up the razor rendering them quickly useless because its nearly impossible picking the tiny hairs out from between all four blades. I ordered this Merkur long handled razor after researching the reviews and I'm so happy that I did! This razor has a beautiful chrome finish with a nice heavy feel to it. Its real quality and built for a lifetime of service. Its such an easy design and gives such a close shave that it makes me wonder how disposable razors were ever invented in the first place. I use break-off knives daily at my sign shop, cutting sheet vinyl and paper. I'm constantly having to open and close my knife. This design is markedly better than any others I've used. It opens and closes smoothly and automatically locks sufficiently enough for the cutting that I do.It's sometimes a small thing like this that makes a job a whole lot easier, so I'm happy to pass on the good word.
